Basil Kerski
Basil Kerski (*1969, Gdansk/Poland) is the chief editor of the bilingual “German-Polish Magazine DIALOG” (Berlin/Gdansk). At the Free University of Berlin he studied political sciences and Slavonic studies. In addition to his work for DIALOG Kerski is honorary director of the German-Polish Company Federal Association, an umbrella organisation of 52 German-Polish initiatives that has been in existence since 1986. He is also editor of the political journal Przegląd Polityczny that was founded in 1983 by Donald Tusk and is published in Gdansk. As a political expert Kerski worked at the German-American Aspen Institute in Berlin, at the research institute of the German Foreign Policy Association, at the German Bundestag as well as the Scientific Centre for Social Research in Berlin (WZB). As well as scientific papers, Kerski has also published numerous articles in German and Polish newspapers and journals (Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Der Tagesspiegel, Berliner Zeitung, Internationale Politik, Le Monde Diplomatique, Sinn und Form, Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita, Tygodnik Powszechny). He is also the author of numerous German and Polish books on historical and political topics. Between 2001 and 2005 was a lecturer at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg and the Polish cultural foundation “Borussia“ in Olsztyn. For his services to the development of German-Polish relations Basil Kerksi was awarded the Polish Republic’s order of merit in gold by state president Aleksander Kwaśniewski in 2005. In 2005 the University of Leipzig and the scientific association Societas Jablonoviana awarded him the Jablonowski Prize 2005.
