Minister of State Bernd Neumann, MP
Minister of State Bernd Neumann, MP (*1942, Germany) has been the representative of the Federal Government for Culture and Media since 2005. After studying educational sciences in Bremen he worked as a teacher in the Hanseatic city from 1966 to 1971. He has been a member of the CDU since 1962 and has held numerous party positions and offices at federal state and national level: from 1967 to 1973 he was state chairman of the Young Union in Bremen, 1971 – 1973 deputy federal chairman of the Young Union, from 1971 to 1987 a member of the Bremen city parliament, including from 1973 to 1987 leader of the CDU parliamentary party in Bremen as well as since 1979 state chairman of the CDU Bremen. Bernd Neumann has been a member of the German Parliament since 1987. From 1991 to 1998 he was parliamentary secretary of state at the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology. From 1998 to 2005 he was head of the CDU/CSU parliamentary party for culture and media.
