Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb)

Any body politic can only be as strong as its citizens are watchful, sensitive and critical. The Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) contributes to strengthening the body politic. To this end, it offers information on political events and developments in society, encouraging people to take an active part in the political process, so that they have the competence to participate in the political debate and decisions.The bpb disseminates its offerings through various media, including books, magazines and brochures, the Internet and CD-ROMs, congresses, workshops and cultural events. In doing so, it addresses the most diverse groups, so that everyone is reached by information that they can understand. It is assisted in this context by a nationwide network of partners from all spheres of society, including the providers of political education and the Land Agencies for Civic Education, as well as universities, schools, research institutions, associations, foundations and municipalities. In this way, the bpb attains its goal "to consolidate democratic awareness and increase motivation to participate in political processes" (Decree of the Federal Ministry of the Interior) - so that citizens remain watchful, sensitive and critical.
